Coat, maxi, women's, suede, designed and made by the [Purple Parrot], used by Constance Wilson, Sydney, Australia, 1968-1969. Dark red suede maxi coat trimmed with dark brown fur at collar, cuffs, centre front and hem. Coat is princess line, fitted to the waist and flaring to ankle. Centre front opening features 5 red suede buckle closure. Full length sleeve features deep fur cuff. Fully lined in black self spotted [rayon].

Constance Wilson did most of her shopping in the late 1960s at David Jones 6th Floor and the Purple Parrot in Kings Cross. As the coat doesn't have a label and David Jones normally label their garments she thinks the coat was purchased from the Purple Parrot. This was a boutique in Kings Cross producing made to measure garments-they also had a small collection of off-the-rack garments. They would show the client a range of designs from which they would select the preferred style and fabric. The client would then be measured up and the item made for them. Notes
The coat was worn by Constance Wilson - usually for evening wear and the theatre - worn with a long black ankle length velvet skirt, black or white lace blouse and long black boots with gold trim.
