PRODUCTION

Notes

Papier mache is a popular theatre and circus material. This head was probably made by Guillaume and/or his sons. No reference has been found to this performance. The Anthony Hordern's label on the skeleton costume indicates the act postdates their arrival in Australia. There is little evidence of wear on the costumes

HISTORY

Notes

From the 'Louis XVI' tableau vivant. Louis has his head chopped off, his body falls to the ground and his head rolls across the stage. Louis then arises from the dead and chases his former courtiers. The Jandaschewsky family collection was kept together by the last remaining family member, Arthur 'Jandy' Jandaschewsky. During the last years of his life 'Jandy' sold the collection to his friend John Anastasiadis. Mr Anastasiadis kept the collection for a 25 year period, having built a repository for housing and exhibiting it at his own home. In 1994 he sold the collection to the MAAS in order to keep it together, and in New South Wales, according to 'Jandy's' wishes.
