PRODUCTION

Notes

Peter Tully (1947-1992) was one of Australia's most inventive designer-makers. Perhaps best known for his extraordinary jewellery and costume designs, the range of his production extended from small and intimate works to major public events such as Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, of which Peter was artistic director from 1982 to 1986. Made by Peter Tully for the 1990 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Using everyday materials in unexpected and complex combinations, Tully had a remarkable ability for transforming the commonplace into spectacle. In the 1970s he was one of the first in Australia to exclusively use alternative materials such as plastic, readymade and found objects in his jewellery. Later he pioneered the use of high tech materials such as holograms in costume.
