PRODUCTION
Notes
The underpants with their zippered pocket are a quirky solution to the dangers travellers face from thieves not only in China but anywhere in the world. They are specifically made for the Chinese market and allow the traveller to secure money in their underpants, away from the grasp of theives. The zippered pocket may also have another purpose in keeping with the current population control policy in China, as a pocket to carry condoms. Printed on pouch in Chinese characters: 'High class anti bandit underpants'.
HISTORY
Notes
The underpants were purchased by Linda Jaivin from a Beijing street stall for 7RMB in 1994 and were donated to the museum unused. The underpants with zippered pocket allowed travellers to secure money out of sight from theives.
