'Fanlight' bathroom exhaust fan and light

Designed by Nielsen Design Associates and made by HPM Industries Pty Ltd this product received an Australian Design Award and was one of the first products to receive the Powerhouse Museum Selection in 1992. At the time it represented an innovative approach to product design with its slimline profile and hidden intake grill. This fan is an example of the work of Nielsen Design Associates, one of Australia's oldest industrial design consulting firms. Established by Carl Nielsen in 1961, the group has developed products for a broad range of industries, from telecommunications to medical devices. In 2006 the Fanlight was still part of the HPM range of products.

This fan received an Australian Design Award and Powerhouse Museum Selection Award in 1992. It was designed by Nielsen Design Associates in Hunters Hill NSW. Keith Hensel, a designer for Nielsen from 1989-1992 was involved in the design. He later worked for Sunbeam and Breville. The fan was made by HPM Industries.
HISTORY
Notes
This fan was one of the first products to receive the Powerhouse Museum Selection as part of the Australian Design Awards program in 1992. Nielsen Design Associates, established by Carl Nielsen in 1961, was one of the first industrial design consulting businesses in Sydney. In 1985 Carl's first employee David Wood, became a director of the group along with senior designers Sandy McNeil and Adam Laws. in 2005 David and Sandy were the group's directors. From a studio in Hunters Hill, Nielsen's ten designers develop products for a broad range of industries, from telecommunications to medical devices. About half their work is for clients outside Australia, mainly in Europe and Asia.
