PRODUCTION

Notes

Miyake is a leading international fashion designer whose clothes are often inspired by Japanese tradition and culture. The origami inspired design takes a culturally specific idiom and translates it into an international form. This jacket was designed for commercial production for Miyake's spring/summer range in 1991. The cut is simple yet complex based on origami Japanese folding techniques. He uses silk gazar. This is appropriate for this garment as the fabric combines qualities of delicacy with a gentle stiffness which is required to maintain the folded fabric form.
