Photographic prints, Donald James Harkness, Sydney, New South Wales, c 1916-1971 Three original photograph albums and two archival albums (containing the loose photos found amongst the papers) of black & white photographic prints and two negatives, together with one large mounted photo. Some photos are not original prints, but copies made by the Museum. Subjects of the photos include exterior and interior views of the Harkness & Hillier engineering works, Bridge (later Victoria) Road, Drummoyne, c.1916 and Parramatta Road, Five Dock, 1920s-40s; Harkness's Overland Sports racing car "Whitey", c.1925; Dave Carrigan in a Willys Knight (promotional trip from Sydney to Melbourne on one can of petrol), 1926; the start of the 1,000 mile "Overland" rally, 1927; Harkness's hydroglider, 1928; Avro Avians, c.1929; the Harkness Hornet engine; the release of the Hornet-powered "Genairco" plane, 1930; Norman 'Wizard' Smith's world record attempts at Ninety Mile Beach, New Zealand in Harkness's "Anzac" and "Enterprise", 1930-31; Sir Malcolm Campbell's "Bluebird", 1932; a Central Australian trip; the Harkness Hardy crude oil engine; and Harkness and the Australian Six car he helped the Museum to restore, 1971.
