Summary

Physical Description

The machine is a coffee grinder used as an ash grinder at Eastern Suburbs crematorium. The grinder consists of a vertical stand rising from a square base which has holes in the corners to enable it to be bolted to the floor. An electric motor with a rubber belt driving a horizontal drive shaft is attached to the vertical stand. The motor operates the grinding mechanism and the belt is covered by a large guard attached to one side of the stand. A 'funnel' is attached to the top of the machine. Material was poured into the funnel, processed and dropped below through a chute into a tray which would have been supported by a shelf attached to the wall. The rectangular tray has handles at either end and is separate from the grinder. A long electrical cord with two plastic attachments extends from the motor of the machine.
