Medal, 'Dante in Australia', bronze, Eileen Slarke, Sydney, Australia, 1992 Medal, 'Dante in Australia', designed by Eileen Slarke, cast bronze, in the form of a stylised map of Australia, with an exaggerated, angular coastline. On the obverse the face of the poet Dante, is shown, rising out of the south eastern portion of the map, whilst the title "Dante in Australia" is inscribed to the left, with the word 'Australia' repeated in part, a further 5 times, covering the entire western half of the map. On the reverse, the designer's initials "E.S.", the edition number "8/9" and the year "92", are inscribed in gold leaf. The medal was designed for 'Dante In Australia,' an exhibition of 30 Australian artist's interpretations of hell as inspired by Dante, which toured Italy in 1993.
