Physical Description
Bowl, porcelain, d. Lulu Shorter, Doulton & Co Ltd, Burslem, England, 1918. Bowl, porcelain, circular with a low footrim and steeply rounded sides rising from a braod shallow well to a slightly everted scalloped rim. The bowl is clear glazed and the interior decorated over the glaze (against the white reserve) with an elaborate border pattern transfer printed in onglaze gilt. The pattern is of open flannel flowers and flannel flower buds interwoven with rococo scrollwork between three evenly spaced rococo cartouches each featuring two flannel flowers side by side, The design is hand finished with onglaze pale green enamel detail to the flowers and a fine green band running through the border pattern above the reserved well. The rim is gilt.

PRODUCTION
Notes
The design was prepared in 1908 and applied to Doulton earthenwares and bone china from about 1912 to [1919]. Impressed mark "[8-18]" under the base is a Royal Doulton date mark. Indicates bowl blank was made in August 1918.
