Physical Description

Back support corset, womens, 'Camp Trade Mark', cotton / elastic / metal, Berlei, Australia, c.1960. Flesh pink corset made of thick cotton drill with small elastic gussets at left and right front at the top and at the hem. High back with heavy boning. Complex lacing at sides with pale peach nylon lacing through metal eyelets and adjustable via two webbing straps and grip metal buckles on each side. The sides under the lacing is lined with pink cotton. Adjustable shoulder straps are partially padded and covered with pale peach velvet. Left front opening fastens with 12 metal hooks and eyes and is lined with a velvet placket. Four adjustable suspenders around hem.

The manufacture and distribution of surgical garments were significant facets of the Berlei company's business. This corset appears to have been made by Berlei based on a S H Camp design.
