'Folkore Studies' booklet by von Ilse Martin

Object No. 93/179/4

The booklet contains photographs taken by Hedda to accompany an article on scent bags (see object number 93/179/4), written by Ilse Martin and published by the Museum of Oriental Ethnology, Catholic University, Peking in 1945. This project, and another in which Morrison photographed Chinese furniture collected by westerners in China for a book Chinese household furniture (Harper & Brothers, New York, 1948), are examples of how Hedda worked with expatriate friends in Peking and contributed photographic prints to publishing projects that sought to make aspects of traditional Chinese culture better understood.
