Textile length, 'The Mary MacKillop Commemorative Toile', cotton, design Pamela Griffith, printer Tennyson Textiles (Aust) Pty Ltd, produced by Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, Sydney, Australia, 1993 Off-white cotton, printed in red with a 72 x 142 repeat pattern depicting 31 different line drawn scenes (religious, rural & domestic) from the life of Sister Mary MacKillop, who founded the order of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart in 1867 in South Australia. The whole lenngth is approx 3 1/3 repeats.

Pamela Griffith, well known for her line drawings, is an experienced designer of toiles, having been previously commisssioned by Ascraft Fabrics in 1987 to design the Macquarie and Bicentennial toiles for their range of Australian designed fabrics Printers: Tennyson Textiles, Fabric: National Textiles; Yarn by Rocklea Spinning Mills; Cotton grown in Queensland This fabric was printed in 3 colourways - red, blue, charcoal
HISTORY

Commissioned by the Mary MacKillop Secretariat of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart to commemorate the expected beatification of Mary MacKillop to sainthood. Mary MacKillop would be Australia's first saint. This was a totally Australian product from yarn to final product.
