This is a Miehle Quad Crown double revolution printing press used to print the 'Bombala Times' in the New South Wales town of Bombala from 1967. When manufactured in 1890 by the British company, the Miehle Printing Press and Manufacturing Co. of London, this printing press represented a considerable technological advance. It was capable of printing four pages on one sheet, thereby substantially increasing efficiency. The double revolution press, as its name implies, was able to speed up the printing process to produce the 'Bombala Times' from 1967. First published in 1863, the Times was edited and printed in the town for over 120 years. The last issue produced on this press was for 7 February 1985. A change of ownership meant the paper's production moved to Cooma using modern offset techniques and the press was donated to the Museum.

Physical Description
Press: cast iron frame painted black, one end has large sloping timber tray above four tabloid page set of type in tray. Four flat plates along this end. Behind type is large roller with over printed cardboard. Three large wheels at sides. Rear half has series of parallel timber batons with webbing belt beneath connected to rollers. Flat timber tray this end. Blank paper: 112 sheets of cream coloured blank paper for use with press, brown around the edges.

HISTORY
Notes
This Miehle printing press made in 1890 was used by the Bombala Times from 1967 to 1985. This country newspaper has been continually published since 1863. It was owned by the Johnson family between 1938 and 1975. During time circulation expanded from 325 to a modern weekly and production from a single broadsheet to a multiple page format. In 1967 an additional pressroom was constructed and this 90 year old Meihle two revolution flatbed press installed capable of printing four pages on one sheet. A folding machine was purchased and production was completely self-contained being by two Linotype machines and after 1970, photographs were included from a Kleishograph machine. From 14 February 1985, under new ownership, production was undertaken from Cooma using modern photo offset techniques.
