Physical Description

Placemat, koala motif, embroidered linen / cotton, maker unknown, Australia, 1920-1940 Hand embroidered white linen and cotton placemat with scalloped edges. Two koala motifs perched on flowering gum trees in red, green, brown, yellow and black thread have been worked into opposite corners using stem and satin stitches. A narrow brown stem stitch border repeats the shape of the mat. A ecru linen crocheted scalloped border has been added to the edges.
