Anti-smoking poster 'Kiss a non smoker enjoy the difference'

Object No. 2001/75/40

Since the late nineteenth century, government and community organisations have produced posters to promote health. Posters displayed in buses and trains, health and community centres, hospitals and doctors' surgeries, alert the general public to local health services, provide practical information about healthy behaviours, and convey other important health-related messages. This poster is part of a collection that came from the Health Promotion Unit of the Central Coast Area Health Service. The Central Coast Area Health Service is one of NSW Health's Sydney metropolitan area health services. It is responsible for the health of its local community and for managing all public hospitals and community health services in the region that includes Wyong, Gosford and Woy Woy. The collection as a whole reflects the particular concerns of the Central Coast area, such as skin cancer and the health of retired people, as well as major issues in public health between 1970 and 1999, including smoking, women's health and drug use. This poster encourages people to give up smoking by suggesting that kissing a non-smoker is a more pleasant experience than kissing a smoker.
